To provide free online resources to girl students of Classes 11 and 12 for preparation of admission test for engineering colleges in the country, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is launching a project 'UDAAN', a program to provide wings to girl students. The girl students can either apply online or a copy of application can be submitted to CBSE city coordinators. The last date to send the application is October 27. The special focus of the project was to address the low enrollment ratio of girls in engineering institutions and to enable girl students to receive special incentives and support so that they can join these institutions and go on to take leadership roles in the future.
The aim was to enrich and enhance teaching and learning of science and mathematics at senior secondary level by providing free and online resources to everyone with a focus on separate incentives and support to 1,000 selected disadvantaged girls every year. This was stated in a circular issued by CBSE recently. The circular further stated that 50% seats have been earmarked for students from SC/ST/backward classes. Tutorials, lectures and study materials for preparation for IIT JEE would also be provided online and on tablets given to students. Financial assistance by means of reward points would be redeemed towards fees in IITs and National Institutes of Technology (NITs). To enhance learning, a helpline would also be started for the girl students. The board will also provide periodic counselling to motivate students and parents. Students can send their applications in an envelope marked 'Udaan programme' and send it to CBSE, 4th floor, Shiksha Sadan, 17 Rouse Avenue, New Delhi, 110002. Who can apply? Girl students currently enrolled in Class 11 and 12 in PCM stream. Selection will be based on merit Preference will be given to girls from economically disadvantaged background. Minimum 70% marks in Class 10 overall and 80% in Science and Mathematics and for boards which follow cumulative grade point average (CGPA), a minimum CGPA of 8 and GPA of 9 in science and mathematics.
