Indian Education System or American Education System! It is difficult to say which system is better. Both education systems have their own benefits and drawbacks. Both the systems have managed to develop the legendary personalities and world leaders. Americans who have never been to India would never be able to understand the Indian education system and vice versa. If we analyse these two education system, we will find some similarities and some differences. It’s completely upon individuals to decide which system they would like to prefer. Before counting of difference let us take you through the basic structure of evolved educational system of both countries. Indian Education System (10+2+3 pattern) A decade ago it was considered that one cannot get the world class education in India. However, the current trend has shown tremendous development in quality of education. Various research done in the past decade has highlighted the loopholes in curriculum. However, governing bodies had acted upon such drawbacks and brought some necessary changes. Syllabuses have been amended, new courses are being added and teaching methodologies have been changed. Updated infrastructure and qualified teachers are proffering premier quality of content. E-learning is gradually becoming trend in the schools. Education is the responsibility of central and state government. CBSE, CISCE, STATE and The National Open School are the main boards of Indian education. The academic divisions in India are broadly divided into following categories:
Upto 8th standard elementary education is provided. Secondary and higher secondary takes 2 years each. Graduation could take 3 to 5 years depending upon the nature of the course, then after the option of post-graduation (2 years) and research will be available. American Education System US has the most advanced education system from the rest of the world. State and the local government play key role in designing the curriculum. Hence, we can see little standardization in syllabuses. Individual state takes great control over education. For instance, content of the chapters, what truly is taught. These states are also responsible for the school funding to meet requirement. So, one can see the difference subjects, courses and other activities. Though there is huge variation still, there are some common points like division of academic years. US follow three level pattern.
Parents sending children to kindergartens/pre-primary/nursery school have to finance the institute. Schools in US give more emphasis on practical understanding and extra-curricular activities. Some similarities of Indian and American education
Major Differences of Indian and American Education system Though, there are some similarities but the way education sector is treated in both countries shows a vast difference.

Mediocrity of education and the recent developments Indian education system is slowly coming out of age. Now it is abandoning the vicious cycle of poor teaching methods that belonged to the bygone era. Rote learning, running after grades and poor school infrastructure are gradually turning into things of the past. Till 4-5 years back the purpose of schools were to produce engineers and doctors only. In education system of India, we can still see the colonial impact. The purpose our system is to create Babus and low cost engineers who run call centers for the rest of the world. Now, this concept is changing gradually. The real education involves understanding the capability and creativity of students. We don’t want to end like a low-quality service provider nation. We should be able to create innovators, thinkers, entrepreneurs and artists if we want to drive knowledge-based economy. For that purpose, we need some serious changes in the education system. Schools in India have started realizing the real meaning of education is not to produce engineers and doctors. We must focus on skills of the students - The area of interest of students in which they can grow. In this way, we will improve our education system and create the real leaders for the future. Globalization and development in technology has greatly affected education system around the world. The consequences of globalization in education can be seen in India as well. The whole system of education which was plagued with the colonial teaching methods is looking ahead. Though late, yet awareness on education has done many wonderful jobs, such as: a. Rewarding Creativity – Our marking and testing system is changing. Government introduced new grading system in 2009-10. Modification in marking system has been done to release the pressure and fear of exam. The change in the trend helps students in showing their analytical skills. Now risk taking is not considered inappropriate. Gradually, schools are learning to reward students with a creative mind, problem-solving attitude and innovative skills.
b. Personalizing Education – During the colonial period, rulers need to produce the like-minded people who can do the same work even if they are sitting in the different corners of the world. They did it to control the world economy. India adopted this trend from their ruler. And back then it was needed too as during that time we don’t have the technology doing work for us. Going to schools became compulsory. Person with different IQ level sit in the same classroom, reading same topics (even if a person with lower IQ was not able to understand the concepts). However, in the 21st century we know two things very clearly.
c. Introduction of Education Based Technology Infrastructure Improvement in school infrastructure is the need of the hour. Some private schools in India already have given the permission of using digital technology in their classrooms.
The digitalization of teaching has made classroom interesting. Only a few schools in India have understood it. A large number of schools, especially in ruler areas are still to be enlightened on this 21st century teaching method. There is awareness among people now. Technology has brought many positive changes in Indian Education system. Still a lot more has to be done. Though grading system has been introduced yet many people show fascination for old marking system. The provision of reservation is still a great concern in schools and universities. Low student to teacher ratio is another area that requires improvement. In addition, in a large number of public schools the condition of infrastructure is in deteriorating condition. Lawmakers should become serious about our education system. They must work to boost the infrastructure in our public schools, make use of technology to teach pupils and give equal importance to the distance schooling too.
